Skinimalism- Everything you Need to Know

The Skinamilism Trend- Everything you need to know!

What Is Skinimalism?

If you have heard the term skinimalism and wondered what it means, you are in the right place. Skinimalism is the shift away from complicated 10 step beauty regimens to something simpler and more streamlined.

It really puts an emphasis on curating a skincare routine that enhances natural beauty and protects your skin barrier which is becoming increasingly important for many beauty and wellness aficionados. It can become overwhelming when trying to develop your ideal skincare routine when there is a plethora of beauty products on the market to choose from. The endless options and ingredient lists can confuse people and leave them feeling left out of game.

Recently the term, Skinimalism has been coined to define a skincare trend that emphasizes the use of minimal products to streamline your skincare routine without sacrificing the benefits of an extensive skincare process. This trend emphasizes the enhancement of your natural beauty by protecting the skin barrier  and nourishing the skin deeply without the use of excess products and treatments. This trend truly promotes the idea of simpler is better when it comes to skincare. This is also beneficial for you as you can save money without sacrificing the effectiveness of your routine. It also means looking for products that do double duty or choosing makeup with skin care benefits.

For the longest time, extensive skincare routines were encouraged by most skincare and makeup brands to increase revenue and product sales. This Skinimalism revolution has allowed many skincare lovers to break away from the use of countless products and strive to select fewer, yet more effective skincare products.

Utilizing Powerful Skincare Routines To Minimize The Need Or Use For Makeup

The Skinimalism trend focuses on caring for your skin through nourishment and the treatment of specific skin-related concerns such as aging, acne or hydration, rather than using makeup to mask the problem. This mentality improves your confidence while also improving the natural barrier of your skin. Many dermatologists and skin care professionals have been encouraging more streamlined skincare routines for years and the exodus from 12-step skincare routines is quite encouraging.

Skinimalism encourages the development of a skincare routine that utilizes about 4-5 skincare products to properly care for and treat the skin. These specific products will vary between each person and their unique skin type, however, each routine should incorporate cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting of the skin barrier. It is always important to carefully read the ingredients of each of your skincare products to determine that no harmful ingredients are included like Polyethylene glycol (PEGs) and butylene glycol (BG), Siloxanes & Oxybenzone which are no go’s.

Where To Start When Developing A Skinimalism Routine

Don’t be discouraged if you are unsure where to start when developing your minimal skincare routine. It is first important to identify your skin type or skin concerns that you would like to target or treat. This can be confusing too- I always thought I must have oily skin because I would always get congested in my chin area, so I was using products to dry it out, but my skin is actually dry- so it was making the problem worse. If you can, seek out a good esthetician who can help you diagnose your skin type.

After this has been determined, you can begin to research what cleansers, moisturizers, and sun protectants are best for your skincare goals.

Most dermatologists recommend that you select a cleanser, a moisturizer, Vitamin C, and an SPF for your skincare routine.

Some of our favorite cleaners are perfect for all skin types and can be found here, here and here

For moisture, look into Hyaluronic acid serums. My favorite is this one and it is good for almost all skin types. Putting on a layer of moisturizer after such as this one or this one will help seal the deal.

When it come to choosing Vitamin C, it can be tricky because it can be irritating for some skin skin types so look to see if you can get samples or get recommendations before diving right in. We like this one and this one but there are a lot out there to choose from!

Finally the all-important SPF. SPF should be worn every day regardless of if the sun is shining or not. Some great picks are this one from Avene, this one from CosRX and this one from Supergoop.

So, if you are looking to streamline your skincare routine and enhance your natural beauty, consider moving towards a more minimal skincare routine. You might find that your skin will thank you for it, and your wallet!
